Overview

The BYD Ti 7 DM-i (from £47,995) is a plug-in hybrid SUV from BYD. It offers a claimed range of 74 mi electric, 408 hp, 0–62 mph in 4.8 s and 7 seats.

The Ti 7 is BYD’s first seven-seat SUV in the UK: a square-cut, off-road-styled plug-in hybrid aimed at buyers who like the look of a Land Rover Defender but not the price. It is sold in a single, fully loaded Excellence AWD specification at £47,995. Orders are open now, with cars in showrooms from November 2026 and customer deliveries from January 2027.

Battery, range and charging

The Ti 7 uses BYD’s DM-p plug-in hybrid system, which prioritises performance, with a 35.6 kWh Blade battery – much larger than most PHEVs carry. BYD quotes up to 74 miles of electric-only range, though some figures are still subject to final confirmation.

Performance and driving

A 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine works with electric motors on both axles for a combined 408 PS, giving four-wheel drive and 0–62 mph in a claimed 4.8 seconds. Top speed is 118 mph, and the Ti 7 can tow up to 2,500 kg. At 5,146 mm long it is a big vehicle, so it will feel more at home on A-roads and motorways than in tight city streets.

Interior and space

All seven seats are standard. With every seat in use there are 126 litres of boot space, rising to 970 litres with the third row folded and 1,830 litres with both rear rows down. Leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front and outer second-row seats, three-zone climate control and a panoramic glass roof are all included, as is a fridge in the centre console.

Technology and safety

A 15.6-inch rotating central touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto sits alongside a 10-inch digital instrument panel. There is an 18-speaker sound system, two 50 W wireless phone chargers and acoustic glass for the windscreen and front windows to keep road noise down.

Who is it for?

Large families who want seven seats, a long electric range and strong performance in one package. It competes with the Land Rover Defender 110 PHEV, Kia Sorento PHEV and Hyundai Santa Fe Plug-in Hybrid, and undercuts the Land Rover heavily.
