Overview

The MG3 Hybrid+ (from £19,995) is the top version of the MG MG3, a hybrid (self-charging) hatchback. It offers 194 hp and 0–62 mph in 8 s.

The MG3 Hybrid+ is the self-charging hybrid version of MG's supermini and the most compact member of its Hybrid+ family. It costs from £19,995 in SE trim and £21,995 as a Trophy, which makes it one of the cheapest full hybrids on sale in the UK – thousands less than a Toyota Yaris Hybrid.

Engine, economy and charging

A 1.5-litre petrol engine works with a 100 kW electric motor and a small 1.83 kWh battery that recharges itself while you drive, so there's no plugging in. The system switches automatically between EV, Hybrid and Engine Drive, using a three-speed automatic. Official economy is 64.2 mpg combined with 100 g/km of CO2. For 2026 MG revised the traction motor and generator for better sustained performance and less noise and vibration.

Performance and driving

Combined output is 194 PS (191 bhp) with a hefty 424 Nm, so 0–62 mph takes 8.0 seconds – hot-hatch territory for a budget supermini – and top speed is 106 mph. It pulls away silently on electric power in town and feels brisk when overtaking. The ride is comfortable rather than sporty, and the engine can sound strained under full throttle.

Interior and space

At 4,113 mm long, it offers a 293-litre boot that grows to 983 litres with the split rear seats folded, the same as the petrol model. SE trim gets black cloth seats; Trophy adds black leather-style and suede-style upholstery and a soft-touch steering wheel. Cabin plastics are hard in places, but space for four adults is good.

Technology and safety

Every version has a 10.25-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 7-inch digital driver display, a Bluetooth phone key and adaptive cruise control. Trophy adds a 360-degree camera plus blind-spot detection with lane change assist and rear cross-traffic alert. Autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection is standard across the range.

Who is it for?

Drivers who want automatic-gearbox convenience and real-world hybrid economy without a big outlay. It undercuts the Toyota Yaris Hybrid, Renault Clio E-Tech and Honda Jazz while matching or beating them on performance and warranty.
