Overview

The Jaecoo 7 (from £30,165) is a petrol SUV from Jaecoo. It offers 147 hp and 0–62 mph in 10.3 s.

The Jaecoo 7 is the car that made Jaecoo’s name in Britain: a family SUV with Range Rover-inspired styling and a long kit list for the price, and the UK’s best-selling new car in September 2026. This is the pure petrol version, offered as a front-wheel-drive Deluxe at £30,165 or an all-wheel-drive Luxury at £34,025.

Engine and economy

Both versions use a 147 PS, 275 Nm 1.6-litre turbo petrol engine with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic. The front-wheel-drive car is rated at 37.7 mpg and the AWD at 35.3 mpg, so it is noticeably thirstier than the SHS hybrids, which share the same body.

Performance and driving

0–62 mph takes 10.3 seconds in the FWD car and 11.8 seconds with AWD, and top speed is 112 mph. The ride is on the firm side and can feel fidgety at low speed, the steering gives little feedback and the gearbox can be hesitant. The AWD model’s off-road drive modes are the reason to choose petrol over the hybrids if you face muddy tracks or snowy lanes.

Interior and space

The 4,500 mm-long Jaecoo 7 has a 500-litre boot, extending to 1,265 litres with the rear seats folded. Every petrol car has synthetic leather, heated front seats, a six-way electric driver’s seat and a full-length panoramic roof whose front section opens. The Luxury adds ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, a head-up display, heated outer rear seats and an electric passenger seat.

Technology and safety

A large central touchscreen and a 10.25-inch digital instrument display come as standard, with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Adaptive cruise, keyless entry with walk-away locking and auto LED headlights are fitted to all versions, and the Luxury gets an eight-speaker Sony system. The Jaecoo 7 scored five stars in Euro NCAP testing. As with other Jaecoos, many controls live in the touchscreen.

Who is it for?

Buyers who want an SUV that looks expensive, with plenty of equipment and the option of four-wheel drive, without paying a premium badge price. Rivals include the Kia Sportage, Nissan Qashqai and MG HS.
