Overview
The Chery Tiggo 8 Super Hybrid (from £33,500) is the top version of the Chery Tiggo 8, a plug-in hybrid SUV. It offers a claimed range of 56 mi electric, 204 hp, 0–62 mph in 8.5 s and 7 seats.
The Tiggo 8 Super Hybrid is the plug-in hybrid version of Chery’s seven-seat SUV. Priced from about £33,545 for Aspire, with Summit roughly £3,000 more, it undercuts most seven-seat plug-in hybrids by a wide margin and promises a total range of around 750 miles.
Battery, range and charging
An 18.4 kWh LFP battery gives an official 56 miles of electric range; Electrifying estimates about 40 miles in real-world use. Unusually for a plug-in hybrid, it accepts DC rapid charging at up to 40 kW, taking about 20 minutes for 30–80%. On a 7 kW home wallbox a full charge takes three to four hours. CO2 emissions of 31 g/km put it in a low company-car tax band.
Performance and driving
A 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine and electric motor give 204 hp combined, driving the front wheels through a dedicated hybrid transmission. 0–62 mph takes 8.5 seconds. It is quiet and soft-riding at a cruise, but leans noticeably in bends, and the gearbox can hesitate when switching between petrol and electric power.
Interior and space
The 4.75-metre body has seven seats as standard. Boot space is 117 litres with every seat in place and 494 litres with the third row folded. The dashboard has twin 12.3-inch screens and plenty of soft-touch trim, though climate controls are buried in the touchscreen or voice assistant, and there are only two Isofix points.
Technology and safety
Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 540-degree camera and adaptive cruise control are standard. Summit adds ventilated front seats, heated middle-row seats, a panoramic roof and Sony audio. Ten airbags, autonomous emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert all feature, and the Tiggo 8 scored five stars in Euro NCAP tests.
Who is it for?
Larger families and company-car drivers who want seven seats and low tax without paying for a premium badge. The Skoda Kodiaq iV, Kia Sorento PHEV and BYD Tang are rivals, while Chery’s own Jaecoo 8 offers similar running gear in a more rugged body.
